Team loses opening HCAC series at Transylvania

   The Bluffton College baseball team (4-13, 0-3 HCAC) are looking to pick up a win this week as they lost their single game to Wilmington 15-7 and dropped the three-game series to Transylvania 19-4, 9-2 and 4-3.

   Junior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville Sr.) leads the Beavers in several offensive categories. Fiely posts a team high batting average at .379, hits (22), doubles (4), slugging percentage (.707), total bases (41) and is tied for home runs (5). Senior Kyle Alberson (Berne, Ind./South Adams) leads Bluffton in runs (11), RBI’s (16) and is tied for home runs with Fiely at five. Both Fiely and Alberson lead the Heartland Conference in homers with their five each. Senior Scott Van Eman (Elida/Elida) is the only other Beaver batting over .300 at .315 for the season.

   Senior Josh Underwood (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) currently posts a 3.58 ERA for the season with 21 strikeouts and 20 runs scored. He has faced 128 batters in 32.2 innings pitched, allowing only 33 hits for the year.

   As a squad the Beavers show a .250 batting average (.378 slugging percentage). For the season Bluffton posts 30 errors for a .942 fielding percentage. The pitching staff combines for a 7.62 ERA from the mound with 68 strikeouts for the season for a .250 opponent batting average.

   Bluffton College will be back in action this Thursday for a single game at Cedarville University. Start time is scheduled for 3 pm. The Beavers will play a 3-game series against Manchester on Friday and Saturday. The single game on Friday will be at Manchester (3 pm) with the doubleheader on Saturday coming back to Sears Field for a noon start time.
