Season Week 7 (4/26/04) - It feels good to win a 9 inning league game. This is the first of my career and I hope to win many more next year. We got an excellent performance from Jason Moore and some timely hitting from the rest of us. It was nice to play a team that made all the mistakes we make when we lose. We had almost an error less weekend and this is the first time that I think we had fewer errors than the opposing team. We did not win the games on Saturday. Our bats were asleep for the most part on Saturday and we faced two pretty good pitchers.
Season Week 6 (4/19/04) - We had another disappointing weekend this week because we flat out got spanked by Mount St. Joe. We gave up 40 plus runs in a three game series and I have never heard of anything like that before. Fridays game was 26-15 and that is because they missed two extra points and we went for two late.
Oh wait we were playing baseball. The Mount St. Joe coach blamed all the runs on us not watering down the infield but I think it was the hitting of both teams. Saturday’s first game was a close one and we had plenty of chances to win but couldn’t pull it out.
The team is starting to show the discouragement of this disappointing season as they keep asking themselves why, and it seems that there are no answers. I myself don’t know what has happened to this promising season but whatever it is, it needs to be corrected. We still have some big league games left against good opponents. We can sort of save the season by defeating some of these good teams.
Season Week 5 (4/12/04) - We got another conference win this week but it wasn’t enough. We felt that we were the better team all weekend, but we only made enough plays to win one game. Our week started off with a disappointing loss to Capital. I still don’t know how it is possible to lose a game after leading 14-1 but this team never ceases to amaze me. We as a team were really upset and embarrassed by that loss.
Friday was a good game up until the final innings when they hit a grand slam and took the wind from our sails. We bounced back well to defeat
Season Week 4 (4/5/04) - We had an up and down week which started on Thursday with a disappointing loss to a very average Cedarville team. We played good enough to win for 8 innings but let them tie it up in the 9th and gave them a victory in the 11th. You can’t win games when you have 12 errors. We carried on with the errors and the walks into Friday game against
The last game of the weekend was another disappointment with another poorly played game. I think coach put it best this weekend when he said, “When we are good we are GOOD but when we are bad we are really BAD.” It feels good to win, but for us to make the conference tournament we need to turn it on starting by beating the hated
Season Week 3 (3/29/04) - This was a very disappointing and embarrassing weekend. We wasted the great weather God had provided for us by not playing baseball the way we know how.
We did not do much right all weekend and the scores from the game show the truth. I do not see how coach did not lose all of his hair by watching the terrible showing that we called baseball. I hope that those beatings will wake us up and get us to work harder and start making the plays we can. I still feel that if we turn this thing around, that we can accomplish our goal of making the conference tournament. We need to start by beating Cedarville and
Season Week 2 (3/22/04) - This was a slow week for the Bluffton baseball team. We only had a double header on Saturday. The snow at the beginning of the week prevented us
from practicing outside. Once you start playing and practicing outside the last thing you want to do is go back inside to practice. The team worked hard and pulled off a 1-0 victory over coach’s old school. I can not believe we actually got the games in because it rained the whole way down to Muskingum and it rained right after the last out of the second game. The whole ride to Muskingum the team was a little upset because they felt that we would get there and be rain out and drive the three hours back to Bluffton. Josh Underwood threw another gem giving up only one hit (which was a check swing so it doesn't really count). We pushed a run across by getting someone on then moving them around. We ended the day on a low by not showing up for the second game. As a team we need to play every game hard and be ready for every game. We proved again that we are a good team when we pitch and field.
Season Week 1 (3/15/04) - This week started off with a very embarrassing loss to a good Otterbein squad. We just did not seem to show up for the game and I think Otterbein did us a favor by smacking us around. We came back very strong Saturday against the same Otterbein team and beat their ace in a 2-1 thriller. We got an exceptional start from a senior leader, Josh Underwood. Josh also lead us at the plate by scoring a run that became the winning run. This game should prove to the team that we can be and are a good team. We should go into every with the feeling of victory.
The biggest difference betwen the game on Wednesday and Saturday was our intensity. We came out ready to play and i dont think that Otterbein could match the intensity. This hurt us in the second game because i feel that we did not meet Otterbein's intensity. It feels good to get the winning feeling again and hopefully this makes us hungry for more wins.
Spring Trip (2/8/04) - We are now back to
Please keep cheering for us because there are better times to come. Our trip home was rather boring and uneventful except for the hotel in
Spring Trip (2/3/04) - It is Wednesday now and we have successfully made it to the beautiful state of
We have only gotten through half the week and we have lots of baseball to play and a big trophy to win. We have been getting better and plan on winning this tournament.
Preseason (2/26/04) - This season has brought us a new enthusiasm for the game of
baseball and most of this is due to our new coach, James Grandey. He has brought a whole new work ethic to our team. This work started back in the fall when we would have practice five days a week and an intrasquad scrimmage on Fridays. We continued this work through the winter with the work being done in the weight room along with some serious conditioning. Since the middle of January we have been in the gym getting our swings and reps in preparation for the season. Now it is time to see the improvement of the team as we are ready to go to the Annual Sarasota Classic. We are going to
I am ready for games to start to show that all this practice has worked and to get out of the practice routine. For all the good practice does it is nice to finally play. I am predicting some good or even great things from the Beaver Baseball team.
