Beavers take two of three from Ravens to end season

ANDERSON, IND. - The Bluffton College baseball team (11-29, 6-15 HCAC) finished the season on a high note as they won two of the three game series against Anderson University (11-24, 8-13 HCAC) on Thursday and Friday. The Beavers took game one at home 23-7 and split the doubleheader by winning the first game 3-1 and losing the finale, 3-2.
The Beavers found themselves tied with Anderson at four each in the first game until the sixth inning when Bluffton’s hitters came alive. The team would score 19 runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to run away with the game as they posted 18 total hits. Senior Bob Heitkamp (Ft. Recovery) knocked out a two-run homer with sophomore Riordan McClain (Upper Sandusky) hitting a double and a three-run homer out of the park. Junior Brad Moore (Fredericktown) also hit out a three-run home run for Bluffton. Junior pitcher Jason Moore (Elida) threw his third victory of the year on the mound.
The Beavers then picked up the second game in Anderson with sophomore Randy Miller (Willard) receiving the win on the mound to improve his record to 2-7 for the season. Senior Luke Clouse (Rockford/Parkway) notched a single hit and 2 RBI’s at the plate. The win was the first time of the 2004 season that Bluffton College had won two games in a three-game HCAC series.
Bluffton lost the last game of the series 3-2 in their season finale. The Ravens led 3-0 until the sixth inning when the Beavers knocked one run home. BC would score once more in their final at bat in the seventh for the final score. Senior Ryan Whitaker (Hicksville) picked up the loss despite allowing only two hits in his final game on the pitchers mound. Bob Heitkamp went 3-for-4 with two doubles in the nightcap.
