BLUFFTON, OHIO – The Bluffton College baseball team (7-23, 2-10 HCAC) dropped a single 9-inning game to their neighbor school Ohio Northern University (13-14) 12-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Beavers with sophomore Tony Gerig (West Unity/Hilltop) going 2-for-4 for the day, respectively. Senior Luke Clouse (Rockford/Parkway) knocked a 1-run homer out of the park in the fourth, and sophomore Riordan McClain (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) posted a triple.

Heading into the top of the fourth both schools found themselves tied at one each. The Polar Bears bats then came alive as they scored nine runs over the next three innings and two more in the eighth. The Beavers tried to force a comeback in the bottom of the ninth as they scored two runs, but could not make up the eight run deficit for the 12-6 final.

Freshman pitcher Rob Danhoff (Willard/Willard) picked up the loss on the mound. His record falls to 0-3 for the year.

The Beavers have three HCAC series (Franklin, Hanover, Anderson) to finish off the 2004 campaign. Bluffton will be on the road this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Franklin College. Friday’s game is scheduled for 4 pm with the doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 pm.
