Baseball team sweeps Goshen College at EMU Spring Classic

SARASOTA, FL.- The Bluffton College baseball team won their first two games of the season on Tuesday against Goshen College, 8-6 and 6-1. The two wins give head coach James Grandey his first two career coaching victories.

 

Bluffton defeated Goshen 8-6 in the first game after a five-run deficit from the first inning. Senior Kyle Alberson (Berne, Ind./South Adams)went 2-for-4 with a double and home run in the game. Sophomore Riordan McClain (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville Sr.) posted two home runs and three RBI’s for the Beavers. Picking up the victory on the mound was senior Josh Underwood (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) who also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI’s.

 

In the second game 6-1 victory over Goshen, sophomore Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) was the winning pitcher. Alberson went 2-for-3 in the game with a home run, double and three RBI’s.

 

The two victories are the first Bluffton College doubleheader sweep since 2002 when the Beavers defeated HCAC rival Hanover College in conference play.

 

Bluffton will be back in action tomorrow at 12:30 pm against Southern Virginia.
