BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently named their 2004-05 Academic All-Conference team selections. Three Bluffton University athletic teams were named to the list.

In order to be named Academic All-Heartland Conference a team must have a 3.25 grade point average at the end of the term in which the season ends. Team GPA awards are based on a team’s final roster and grade point average at the end of the semester; not a cumulative average.

“It is important to remember we are students first,” athletics director Phill Talavinia said. “We are pleased to see that many of our athletic teams strive to be successful academically and were honored by the Heartland Conference.”

The women’s cross country and track teams are both recipients of the award. The cross country team posted a 3.26 GPA as the track team accumulated a 3.41 GPA throughout the season.

“I’m very proud of both teams,” said Janey Meeks, head cross country and track coach. “We strive to put as much effort in the classroom as we do on the field.”

Beaver softball took care of the books along with taking care of the ball this past season. The team posted a 3.37 GPA to earn the award.

“It’s a testimony to the student athletes because they were able to balance their school work with early and demanding practices,” said Holly Spann, head softball coach. “I’m very pleased with where the team stands academically.”
