The major in Psychology consists of a minimum of 40 semester hours. This includes 18 hours of required courses, and 22 hours of elective credit.
The required courses in psychology are the following:
-Introduction to Psychology
-Statistics, Tests & Measurement, & Research Methods--our research sequence.
-Psychology Research Seminar--a course for students to work on their own independently designed research projects.
-Psychology, Faith & Ethics--our capstone course that invites students to reflect on the ways that psychology intersects with larger ethical and religious questions. To get a picture of what is covered in this course, you could skim the topics on the Spring 2004 course syllabus.
Electives in psychology include the following courses: Child & Adolescent Psychology, Social Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Educational Psychology & Classroom Assessment, Personality, Biological Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, History & Systems of Psychology, Psychology of Learning, Therapeutic Psychology, and the Practicum course. Special topic electives, such as Child & Adolescent Psychology; Science, Religion, and the Cognitive Revolution; Psychology of Women; etc. are offered based upon demand.

To declare a major in psychology, you should have a declaration form signed by the Department Chair (currently Dr. Will Slater). Dr. Slater will assign you a faculty advisor who will work with you on selecting courses that are most consistent with your interests and career goals. Your advisor will also need to sign the form, and then the form needs delivered to the Registrar's office.
