Music Scholarship Information

The Bluffton University Music Department is privileged to offer new students who plan to major in music financial assistance in the form of music scholarships.  The maximum award is $1,000 annually and all instruments and voice parts are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility
Music Scholarships are available to first-year and transfer students who declare a Music Major.
In order to be awarded a Music Scholarship, recipients must have applied and been accepted at Bluffton University.

Application Procedure


Audition Procedures

  • Schedule an audition time with Dr. Unrau.
  • Plan to perform two works of contrasting character.  For instrumentalists this could include a fast and slow work, and/or pieces from different historical eras; vocalists may choose to perform in foriegn languages.
  • Audition music should not exceed ten minutes.
  • You are encouraged to bring your own accompanist.  In the event this is not possible, please contact Dr. Unrau to discuss accompanist options.
  • A videotape of the audition may be made for purposes of adjudication.
  • Dress appropriately for the performance and interview.

Renewal of Award
The scholarship award is renewable for an additional six semesters after the first year as long as the following requirements are met:

  • Grade point average of 2.5 is maintained.
  • Participation in a vocal group and an instrumental group each semester.

Deadlines
We encourage you to audition early.  Awards will be made through April 15.  After April 15, please contact the Music Office for scholarship availability.
