What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?
I enjoy getting to know and working with new students each year.
What age were you when you first discovered that you wanted to be a teacher?
I was a junior in high school, studying saxophone privately at Moorhead State University in Minn. My teacher, and the experience overall, opened my mind to the possibility of a college music teaching career.
What is your favorite subject to teach, and why?
I find most satisfaction teaching private/applied woodwind lessons. I enjoy hearing the progress of my students each week and helping them prepare for musical performances.
Where is your favorite place on Bluffton's campus?
Yoder Recital Hall is my favorite place on campus. I was involved in the planning/design process and watched the facility take shape through my teaching studio window.
Who were your favorite teachers in high school and middle school?
My band teachers: Mr. Gaffney and Mr. Hanson.
What do you do in your free time?
I like going to the gym, lifting weights as well as spending time with my children.
What was the first job you ever had?
I was an electrician.
What kinds of activities did you participate in when you attended college?
I was involved in Hockey Band, which is a BIG Deal at the University of Minnesota. I also downhill skied and was on the ski patrol.
Where is somewhere that you would like to visit?
I've never been to New York City...
What is your 'bucket list', or a couple things you would like to do before you die?
I'd like to travel the U.S. in a RV for several months and cross the Atlantic on a cruise ship.
