Mathematics competition

Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017

Note: Because of a number of conflicts, we will be unable to host this contest in 2016. We are sorry for those
who had been planning to attend, and hope you are able to join us in 2017.

The mathematics department has held an annual Mathematics Competition — with cash prizes, scholarship eligibility and bragging rights on the line — for high school students since 2002.

The contest is open to any high school student. In 2015, the 14th annual contest brought 62 high school students to Bluffton's campus. Scholarship offers from each competition will be extended by the following January.

Cash prizes
  • $40 each to top two scores overall
  • $20 and $15 to first and second seniors
  • $20 and $15 to first and second juniors
  • $20 to the top sophomore
  • $20 to the top first-year student
  • $15 to the second place sophomore or first year
  • $10 each to all other students in the top 15

Note: Award amounts are not added together. If, for example, a senior has the top score overall, then she or he will receive $40, and the second place senior will receive $15 (unless he or she had the second-place score overall).

Scholarships

In addition to the cash prizes, $500 and $1,000 Bluffton University scholarships (renewable for four years) will be offered to seniors with high contest scores. Scholarship awards for the 2015 contest will be offered by January 2016.
