Importing and Exporting records from the OhioLINK Library Catalog:
Back to RefWorks page...
Printer-Friendly version
- On the OhioLINK Library Catalog search page, conduct a search on the topic of your choice.
- On the search results page, select records of interest by checking the box on the left side of each record. Before you navigate away from any particular page or records, you must click on the Save Marked Records bar at the top or bottom of the screen. Otherwise, all your checkmarks on that page will disappear and will not be saved, and you would need to repeat the process of checking desired records on that page.
- NOTE: If you’re looking at the full record for an item, there will be no checkbox to the left. Rather, click on the Save for Export button at the top of the screen.
- When you’re finished selecting records, click on the View Saved Records button at the top of the screen.
- Select the following options: End-note/RefWorks AND Local Disk.
- Click on Submit.
- On the resulting File Download screen, you have the options to Open or Save the file. Click on Save and select the location where you want to save the file, for example, you could save it to the Desktop. You can change the name of the file if you like. Click on Save again to save your selections as a text file to your computer.
- In the Download Complete window, click on Close.
- Go to RefWorks. In the References section of the toolbar, select Import.
- You’ll have several selections to make on this screen:
- Import Filter/Data Source: select Bluffton University.
- Database: select OhioLINK Catalog (Endnote/RefWorks Format).
- On the far right of the screen, click on Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer. The Choose File box will open. Select the file (click on it once) and click on Open. The file name should appear in the empty box next to the word Browse.
- Click on the word Import near the bottom center of the screen.
- On the resulting page, you should see a line that says: Import completed – X references imported.
- Click on the bar that says View Last Imported Folder. Your records should appear on the screen.
- Always be sure to check individual records to be sure they imported properly. You can do this by clicking on the View button next to each record. For example, with this particular set of instructions, check to be sure your page numbers appear as they should. If necessary, click on the Edit button and you will be able to make needed corrections.
