Importing and Exporting records from Academic Search Complete and other Ebsco databases:
Back...
- From the search page of Academic Search Complete (or other Ebsco database), conduct a search on the topic of your choice.
- On the results page, select desired records by clicking on the Add to folder link at the bottom of each record. Or, if viewing the full record, you can click on the yellow folder icon near the top right of the record.
- When finished selecting records, click on the Folder link in the blue bar at the top of the page.
- On the resulting page, select the articles you wish to export into RefWorks. You can select individual records by checking the box next to each record, or you can check the box for Select all.
- Click on Export icon (white page with green arrow).
- Please Note: this icon also appears as you view individual records from your search results, so you could use it to export individual records and bypass the Folder described here.
- Click on the radio button in front of Direct Export to RefWorks.
- Click on the Save button. (Optional choice: check the box Remove these items from folder after saving.)
- Your records will be imported directly into RefWorks. If you haven’t logged in yet, the RefWorks login page should come up. If you’re already logged in, you will see a RefWorks page that says on the left Import completed, and in the middle a box that says View Last Imported Folder.
- At the bottom of that page you will a series of boxes with the header Globally Edit Fields for Imported References. Here’s where you make some additions to all the records you just imported.
- Data source: should show ebsco – leave that as is.
- Database – enter the name of the Ebsco database you’re using, for example, Academic Search Complete, or Education Research Complete.
- Links – enter http://search.epnet.com.
- Retrieved date – today’s date should appear.
- Click on Edit Fields. You should see a page come up that says on the far left Global Edit complete.
- Click on the box in the center of the page that says View Last Imported Folder. You should see a listing of the references you just imported.
- Always be sure to check individual records to be sure they imported properly. You can do this by clicking on the View button next to each record. If necessary as you view the full record, click on the Edit button, and you will be able to make needed corrections.
