COURSE RESERVES

For E-Reserves, Click Here

The Musselman Library maintains a Course Reserves collection for readings and other materials assigned by Bluffton faculty. Placing items on Reserve insures access to materials that will be used by an entire class, or by a number of class members. Course reserves are included in the library catalog and can be searched by faculty name and/or course name/abbreviation. Reserve materials are available on request at the Circulation Desk.

Reserve items may include Bluffton library materials, personal copies, or photocopies prepared by the instructor, but not materials from other libraries (as with OPAL or OhioLINK). All reserves are subject to copyright regulations.

Please note that you may type on this form after it displays on your screen but that you will not be able to save the completed form. We suggest maintaining a copy for your own files of each form submitted. Paper forms are available at the Circulation Desk.

Click here to check the online catalog to verify that reserves for your class are available for use

Please direct questions about Course Reserves to Karyl Crawford, Circulation Manager, 419.358.3271 or crawfordk@bluffton.edu.

Guidelines for Course Reserves

  • Form. The Course Reserves form provides space to identify each item requested for reserve for a class (each class has a separate form). You may download a form in PDF format (see above) or pick up paper forms at the Circulation Desk.
  • Deadlines. Normally, course reserve requests can be processed within 48 hours (except delays for weekends). Before the start of each semester, a 2-week window is advised to insure that the materials are available (not checked out) and to allow processing time. Lists are processed in the order received.
  • Loan period. The loan period for a course reserves item is typically 2-hour. There are two categories for 2-hour reserve: those designated for in-library use only, with the exception that materials may be checked out overnight beginning an hour before closing time (and due back the next day within one hour of the library's opening; (2) those designated for in-library use only without the overnight provision. Depending on the needs for the class, 3-day or 7-day loan periods are also possible.
  • Removing items from Course Reserves. When an item is to be removed from reserve during the course of the semester, please notify the circulation manager with at least 2 days notice so that the item can be processed and returned to you. Items are removed from Course Reserves after each semester or summer term.
  • Materials not owned by the Library. Materials not held by the library but needed for Course Reserve should be requested for purchase well in advance of the class use. Please direct inquiries about purchase to acquisitions@bluffton.edu or call 419.358.3396.
