History Department Majors and Minors

In studying history and political science at Bluffton, students can choose from a number of options:

The History major:  one of the virtues of the major is its flexibility.  Requiring a total of 40 semester hours, the major itself remains small enough to combine with another major or a combination of minors to speak to a student’s individual career interests.

Adolescent/young adult licensure in Social Studies:  students who are aiming at a career in teaching social studies on the high school or middle school are strongly advised to complete the history major and also a list of specialized courses required by the Ohio State Department of Education for the AYA Social Studies license.

The following minors are also available in the department: Political Science; International Studies. There is also a History minor for those not majoring in History.  In addition, though the history major remains excellent training for law school, students aiming for a career in law-related fields can major in any number of areas.  Depending on the area of law they hope to enter, students may elect to combine the major with minors or majors in fields like criminal justice or economics/business. Yet students are also strongly recommended to follow the course of study laid out in the Pre-Law Core.
