What do you enjoy the most about teaching?
I enjoy watching a younger person learn, develop and graduate; and when they call and say, "Hey, I got my first job."
What is your favorite class to teach and why?
I love outdoor recreation because there is so much to explore and the students seem to enjoy the class. They get to know each other on a first name basis. It is a lot of fun with a lot of hands-on learning.
What is your favorite event on campus?
I am the intramural director and I like the intramural championship games. Even though it is recreation the students get excited about it and are very competitive and it is fun to watch.
When did you first know you wanted to teach?
I was in high school and planning on becoming an elementary teacher. When I got to college, a professor directed me to the college level and I learned that I would rather work with adults then younger children.
What is your favorite season on campus?
My favorite season is fall. Campus is striking in the color contrast. There are lots of trees and Rosenberger Drive is gorgeous when the leaves change.
When you are not teaching, what do you enjoy doing?
Bird watching. I like taking pictures of the birds and feeding them in my backyard. I have lots of pictures of the birds at the feeder.
What was the first job you ever had?
In the field of recreation my first job was at a fish hatchery. I also worked at a state park with horse stables which was a wonderful way to spend the summers.
What extracurricular activities were you involved in when you were a college student?
I worked in the public relations department so I photographed every event on campus. I was also the president of the recreation club.
Where is your favorite place to go on vacation?
I go up north to a friend's cabin in the middle of 120 acres of woods and spend 3-4 days there without television or electricity.
What are some things on your 'bucket list'?
