How do I qualify?

 

To be admitted to the program, you must have a bachelor s degree from a regionally- accredited institution. Additional qualifications include a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last half of the bachelor s degree and four (4) years of strong work experience. Applicants who are on a management track will also be considered. People with solid work, management and/or supervisory experience in the for-profit, not-for-profit or public sector tend to succeed in our interactive classroom environment.
 

Is this correct, I attend class just one evening a week AND have the summer off?

Yes, evening classes, meeting once per week for six sessions per course, which permit you to be a full-time student while continuing full-time employment. The program consists of 12 courses and three short courses that are completed in four semesters. We have incorporated a summer break during which there are no homework assignments! Plan on 15-20 hours of homework per week during the school year.
 

What is the difference between  the Master of Business Administration and the Masters of Arts in Organizational Management?

MBA The MBA program emphasizes understanding the nature of the managerial role and analyzing broad societal trends related to the world of business. In addition the program offers second year electives in finance, economics, quantitatively oriented production/operations management, leadership communication, and human resource management.

MAOM The particular strengths of the MAOM program include an emphasis on understanding the nature of the managerial role, analyzing broad societal trends related to the world of business and developing an individual work related research project. A few courses may have to be taken through an alternative delivery.
 

What is the curriculum for the MBA/MAOM programs?

The curriculum is current, integrative and takes a comprehensive approach to management using courses especially designed to take advantage of the contributions that adult students bring to the classroom.
 

What is the business study trip?

MBA/MAOM students have had the opportunity to participate in an optional China Business Study Trip. Participants visit Beijing, Sichuan Province and Chongqing, and the Pearl River Delta Area (Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.) 

The trip was led by Dr. Karen Klassen Harder, professor of business and economics, and Mennonite Partners in China representatives. Cost for the Business Study Trip was $4,550 in 2012 and included China visa, international airfare, domestic airfare and transportation, lodging (double occupancy at 3 star hotels), all meals, entrance fees, cultural events and lectures.

Students can earn up to two semester hours in lieu of participating in one or two short courses.

When do classes start and what are the class hours?

Classes for this program are scheduled to begin in August. The program is cohort- based. Classes meet one evening per week from 6 to 10 p.m. 
 

Where do you offer this program?

We offer this program on our campus in Bluffton, Ohio; at Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio; and at Northwest State Community College just south of Archbold, Ohio.
 

Is Bluffton accredited?  Is your off-site location accredited?

Bluffton holds a certificate of authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents to confer the degree of master of business administration at Bluffton University, Northwest State Community College and Edison Community College; and the master of arts in organizational management at Bluffton University and Edison Community College.  Bluffton is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org
 

Do I qualify for financial aid and what options do I have for paying for the program? Students in the MBA/MAOM programs are considered full-time and may be eligible for the Federal Stafford Loan Program. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to determine eligibility.

In addition to loans, we offer a deferred payment plan to qualified students who are eligible for reimbursement by their employer. Check with your employer to see if they offer educational assistance.

Another option is to arrange a personal payment plan, either by the semester or monthly.
 

Do I need to have a bachelor's degree in a business discipline?
 
No, many students in our program have degrees in majors other than business.

What is the application procedure?

Our program representative can explain the application procedure in more detail, but in summary, here is a list of the items that you must complete:

  • two professional or academic recommendations
  • responses to three short essay questions

  • math and writing assessments
