Did you know that February is American Heart Month? What a great time to refresh your knowledge on ways to keep your heart healthy and protect it from cardiovascular disease (CVD). According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CVD is the number one cause of death in America.
There are many steps you can take towards a healthier heart. One step is to increase your consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are all high in fiber and can help with managing blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Also, limit foods high in sodium, saturated fat and cholesterol. This will also help with the management of cholesterol as well as blood pressure. There are so many benefits of eating right!
Another step you can take to protect your heart is to increase your physical activity. This can be simple changes like taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking farther away in the parking lot.
