Database/Portal administrator

program summary:
Manage, support and maintain the Bluffton University student/faculty web portal, a Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution product. Analyze changes to identify their potential and actual impact. Diagnose and resolve issues. Design and implement web forms, surveys and reports. Provide basic Jenzabar EX support. Interface extensively with IT staff, portal constituents and Bluffton faculty/staff members.

Essential duties and responsibilities
Provide user support

  • Respond to user requests for report creation using Infomaker or other reporting tools
  • Develop custom forms, surveys and interfaces to JICS
  • Train users on basic reporting, survey and form creation
  • Assist in troubleshooting Jenzabar EX helpdesk tickets


Manage portal

  • Perform portal maintenance and upgrades
  • Manage user access, roles and permissions
  • Manage third party integrations into JICS
  • Create, maintain and document portal customizations
  • Assist users in navigating and troubleshooting JICS

Other duties as assigned

  • Contribute skills and experience to a unique team that supports all aspects of information services for the mission of Bluffton University

Education and experience: A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology or a relevant field is preferred. However, evidence of adequate training and on-the-job success is most important.

Special skills:

  • Experience with relational databases in a networked/virtualized environment
  • Two to four years supporting a web application in a networked/virtualized environment
  • Web programming tools (e.g. HTML, CSS, ASP, .NET and JAVA Script)
  • Experience with a portal application in an academic environment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with multiple operating systems and browsers
  • SQL server scripting experience
  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills
  • Self-starter, motivated to work without abundant supervision
  • Ability to define realistic, specific goals and objectives and prioritize them
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Meet schedules and timelines
  • Work independently as well as a team player
  • Intermediate networking skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Reporting Services
