Early childhood
Ages 3-8 and Pre-K through grade 3
You may become licensed to teach in an early childhood setting by completing an darly childhood education major. Course work leading to this license emphasizes all aspects of the child's physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth with special attention given to promoting a positive self-concept. This license prepares you to teach typically developing young children as well as children with mild to moderate disabilities and provides particular focus on the teaching of reading to young children. Extensive field experience in a variety of early childhood educational settings in both public and private arenas is provided throughout your university experience.

Middle childhood
Ages 8-14 and grades 4-9
A license for teaching in the middle grades can be achieved by completing a middle childhood education major. This major requires two areas of concentration: mathematics, social sciences, language arts, and/or science. Course work leading to this license emphasizes the unique needs of the middle grade learner, the teaching of reading and an interdisciplinary team-approach to teaching. It also allows university candidates to focus on the course work necessary for teaching the two academic concentration areas of their choice.

Intervention specialist
Ages 5-21 and grades K-12
A teaching license may be received in the area of special education by completing course requirements for the intervention specialist program. This program licenses candidates to teach children with mild/moderate special educational needs. This would include children with learning disabilities, developmental disabilities and emotional/behavioral disabilities as well as others with mild to moderate special needs. Experiences in this program allows the candidate to develop competencies needed in a variety of educational settings, with emphasis on inclusive practice.
