THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION MAJOR

FINANCE CONCENTRATION

The concentration in finance is designed to provide students with a foundation in the fields of corporate finance, financial investments, and financial institutions. Corporate finance involves forecasting, budgeting, planning, and controlling a firm’s assets. Financial investments involve helping companies raise funds by the sale of new issues of stocks and bonds, and the advising of individuals in purchasing appropriate securities. Financial institutions involve the management of financial firms such as banks, savings and loans, and credit unions. (research job outlook)

HUMAN RESOURCES CONCENTRATION

Human resource personnel study the field of managing people at work in the organization. They deal with the areas of recruitment, training, employee relations, compensation, health and safety, and separation. Additionally, they deal with the impact of government regulations and the demands of society. (research job outlook)

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CONCENTRATION

The international business concentration exposes the student to issues and practices related to trade across international lines. Students with an international emphasis often consider an international nongovernmental organization or charity for their first job after graduation.

MANAGEMENT CONCENTRATION

The management concentration prepares students to analyze and formulate approaches to problem solving in a constantly changing business environment. The application of management theory to practice helps students grasp the fundamental body of knowledge that is vital to success in contemporary business operations. (research job outlook)

MARKETING CONCENTRATION

The marketing concentration is designed to give a business administration major an understanding of marketing. The student will become familiar with terms, concepts, and applications. They will examine marketing research, marketing strategies, target markets, pricing, distribution, new product development, promotion, advertising, sales, and consumer behavior. PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION CONCENTRATION

The public administration concentration is designed to extend the student's knowledge to include some of the unique accounting and management issues that are found in agencies of state and local government, as well as not-for-profit organizations.

COMPREHENSIVE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM

This program is designed for students who prefer a broad business preparation for a variety of careers in business, government, public or social service organizations. For the program, a minimum of 9 hours is selected from department courses representing the various disciplines.
