Communication in Church Organizations

The communication in church organizations program will prepare you for leadership in the Christian church, missions and other ministry institutions through training in the communication arts, church history, theology and ministry. The program emphasizes a Christian commitment to peacemaking and reconciliation as applicable to the practical communication problems associated with contemporary church organizations.

This program does not replace the need for graduate education in preparation for pastoral leadership or managerial training in preparation for other advanced leadership roles.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to

    • develop and lead worship
    • share the Christian message in a range of contexts and through a variety of media
    • provide professional service to Christian organizations through a working knowledge of organizational communication and/or develop public relations campaigns for those institutions
    • give effective public addresses, presentations and sermons using new communication technologies
    • serve as a resource for conflict transformation.

Students complete a major in either communication or religion and take a prescribed series of courses in the other major. Thus a student with a religion major would complete an additional set of requirements in communication.
