Will Slater and Amanda Sensenig (psychology) accompanied 6 students to Manchester College for the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in Psychology. This event included research presentations by students from Bluffton, Goshen College and Manchester College.
On April 20-21, Perry Bush (history) attended an international conference in Kyiv, Ukraine, "Higher Education in Ukraine: Internationalization, Reform, Innovation," hosted by the Fulbright program in Ukraine in conjunction with its 20th anniversary. On April 23-24, in the city of Dnipropetrovsk, he delivered a lecture called "Current American Politics and the Revolutionary Heritage," at the Dnipropetrovsk public library and then at Alfred Nobel University, where he did an interview with a local television channel. On Thursday, April 26, in the city of Cherkasy, he delivered a lecture at Cherkasy National University called “Corporate Power and American Politics: the Historical Origins of the Occupy Wall Street Movement." Also in Cherkasy he was interviewed by a reporter for the Cherkasy newspaper and explored possibilities and logistics for a Bluffton cross-cultural trip to Ukraine.
Gerald Mast (communication) participated in The Mennonite magazine board meeting in Goshen, Ind., and in Central District Conference Missional Church committee meetings, in conjunction with the conference's Leadership Council, at Camp Friedenswald.
Gerald Mast preached a sermon on the theme of "Laying Down Life, and Taking it Up" at Southside Mennonite Church in Springfield, Ohio, on Sunday, April 29. The sermon was based on the lectionary texts from John 10:11-18 and I John 3:16-23.
Gayle Trollinger and Starr Keyes (education) attended the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education conference in Chicago Feb. 16-18. Starr attended a variety of sessions and Gayle attended sessions about the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA). The TPA is being piloted with teacher education candidates this spring and will be a requirement beginning this fall for all Ohio teacher education candidates who complete clinical practice.
In preparation for her spring 2013 sabbatical, Gayle Trollinger attended the National Association for Professional Development Schools conference in Las Vegas. She also participated in a State College/Penn State Professional Development School meeting. She met with Drs. Nolan and Badiali, Penn State faculty members, and began working with them on an edited book to be prepared over the next year.
Jon C. Peterson (music) served as guest organist/pianist at Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora. He also served as guest organist and Howard United Methodist Church in Findlay.
Gregg Luginbuhl (art) has received the "Collector's Choice Award for Excellence in Fine Craft" and a $250 cash award for Rustic Decanter XXIII in the Best of 2012 Exhibition at the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus, Ohio. Gregg will receive the award in opening ceremonies on Sunday, May 6. He also served as a first round juror for the AICUO Excellence In The Visual Arts Program, sponsored by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio, the program recognizes art graduates in the state of Ohio.
Gregg Luginbuhl has two works, the ceramic Rustic Decanter XXIV, and a recent glass piece, The Best of Both Worlds, in Spring Show 2012 at ArtSpace/Lima. The juried show, which features work from artists living within 100 miles of Lima, runs through June 2 at ArtSpace.
