2014 Women's Soccer
Bluffton 1, Grace Bible College 0
September 24, 2014
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Although the Bluffton University women's soccer team finished with a decided 30-5 edge in shots, the only one that mattered was a Jo Bondra (Highland Heights/Mayfield) penalty kick with just over six minutes remaining as the Beavers moved to 2-5 with a 1-0 shutout at Grace Bible College. It marked the second straight year Bondra was the lone goal scorer for Bluffton in their matchups with Grace Bible and it helped the Beavers avenge a 2-1 overtime loss to the Tigers a year ago at the Sears Complex.
Bondra broke the scoreless tie when her penalty kick at the 83:36 mark found the back of the net. The Beavers pounded Grace with 14 shots on frame while also forcing all four corner kicks in the match. The visitors were whistled for three more fouls than their home counterparts (12-9).
Sophomores Kristen Tropf (Findlay/Van Buren) and Terrill Webb (Kenton) attacked Grace with eight and seven shots, respectively, including four and two on goal. Katie Roushia (Bryan) and Paige Kindilien (Continental) chipped in with three attempts each. Freshman Katie Neeley (Huber Heights/Wayne) collected three saves for her first career shutout.
The Beavers will look to carry the momentum from their victory over Grace Bible when they travel to Waynesburg for a non-conference matchup with the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is slated for 12 noon and it will precede the men's contest which follows at 2 p.m.
