Bluffton spilts tri-match at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Beavers travelled to Lexington in Kentucky to play their final HCAC conference match before beginning the conference tournament next week. While each set had multiple tie scores and lead changes, Bluffton fell to Transylvania in three sets: 25-20, 25-14, and 29-27.
Leading the Beavers at the net were sophomores Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) and Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) with nine and eight kills, respectively. Brooke Ruffer (Stryker) tallied 23 assists. Senior Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) led Bluffton's defense with eight digs and was followed by freshman Marissa Krier (Massillon/Central Christian) with seven pickups.
Directly following the match against Transylvania, Bluffton faced Kenyon College. Everyone had time on the court in the four-set win. Bluffton handily dealt with Kenyon 25-17 and 25-15 in the first two sets but then lost 25-13 in the third. The fourth set consisted of six tie scores and four lead changes as the Beavers defeated Kenyon 25-19.
Leading Bluffton at the net was freshman MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) with 10 kills and Parmenter with eight. McFarlin had no errors in the win while hitting .500 against the Ladies. Brown had two solo blocks and four block assists for the Beavers, while Ruffer dished out 35 assists. Phillips led the defense with 11 digs with Krier and McFarlin following close behind with eight and seven.
Bluffton will travel to Cincinnati to face #3 seed Mount St. Joseph in their first round HCAC tournament match on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 pm.
