BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University Men’s Soccer team was unable to claim its first win of the season when it welcomed the College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Wednesday, Sept. 16, falling by a final score 4-0. The Beavers dipped to 0-4 while the Fighting Scots gained their second win of the season, giving them a record of 2-4-1.
The Beavers battled through the first period of the game as they were outshot by the Scots, 12-8. An Alex Montelbano score with less than a minute to play in the first period put the visitors up 1-0 at the break. However, the Scots took advantage of the momentum and scored another goal just over a minute into the second period.
Wooster added two more goals over the next 20 minutes. The first came from Maxwell Clement with 28 minutes left in the period. Then, a mere five minutes later a foul in the box sent Sheamus Dalton to the line for a penalty kick opportunity, giving Wooster their final goal of the match while capping the 4-0 shutout.
Bluffton came up on the short end of a 29-15 shooting margin, including 11-6 on frame. Bluffton keeper Matthew Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, PA) finished the night with seven saves, but it wasn’t enough to reel in his first win.
The Beavers will play again at the Sears Complex on Saturday, Sept. 19 against Otterbein (2 PM). Come on out and cheer on your Bluffton University Beavers!
