The Bluffton College men's soccer team capped off the last week of play with a 1-1 record, posting a 4-3 overtime win over Concordia and a 7-2 loss to Rochester. The 4-3 win over Concordia was Bluffton's first win of the season and the first win for new head coach Steve Smucker. The Beavers now stand at 1-4 for the season.
Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in last Wednesday contest against Bluffton before Bluffton bounced back with two goals of their own. Senior Jon Lindow was the first of the Beavers to find the net but was soon followed by fellow senior Diego Rodriguez. With the score tied 2-2, Concordia scored what would have been the winning goal if not for the last minute heroics of junior Mike Moore who scored the tying goal with two seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game into overtime. Lindow clinched Bluffton's comeback win scoring with remaining, off a nice assist from Diego Rodriguez in the overtime period.
After an exciting win on the road, the Beavers returned to Bluffton to take on Rochester in their home opener last Saturday. Unfortunately, Bluffton couldn't keep the winning streak alive as they were defeated by Rochester 7-2. Lindow and freshman Robert Rohrer paced the Bluffton offense with one goal each.
Bluffton will travel to Cincinnati Bible School on Tuesday this week and will then return home to take on Lake Erie at on Saturday.
