BLUFFTON, Ohio - Junior Scott Bergman (Elmore/Woodmore) was recently honored as first team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and third team All-Region by D3hoops.com.
Bergman was named the MVP of the Heartland Conference this past season as he scored 594 total points to lead the Beavers and the HCAC in scoring. He pulled down 151 rebounds (32 offensive, 119 defensive), 75 assists and 94 steals for the season. Bergman started in all 27 contests for Bluffton last season and averaged 22 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
"Scott's being voted to first team is a very great award," head coach Guy Neal said. "He has worked very hard to make himself an excellent college basketball player. All the awards and accomplishments he has received have been very deserving."
Bergman set the Bluffton single game scoring record this past season when he threw in 50 points against Anderson University on Jan. 22. He now ranks 21st in the career scoring list with 1,053 points (13.3 ppg average) and the 594 points he scored this past season ranks him at fourth on the single season scoring list.
Bergman ranks second in single season free throws made with 147 and ranks fourth in single-season 3-point field goals made with 77 in 2004-05.
The Bluffton University men's basketball team finished the 2004-05 campaign with a 14-13 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bergman helped guide the Beavers to their first ever HCAC tournament win as they defeated Manchester College on the road 77-70. The team then fell to Hanover College 77-67 in the semi-final round of the tournament.
