The 2001 Bluffton College football banquet was held this past Saturday evening in Yoder Recital hall with six players earning special recognition.
Senior co-captain Rick Orr was named Most Valuable Lineman, which is awarded to the offensive or defensive lineman or linebacker who made the biggest impact on the success of the squad this season. A four-year starter, he led the offensive line that produced the leagues' top rusher each year.
Junior quarterback Brad Moore and sophomore running back Jovan Johnson shared the Most Valuable Player award this season. Moore led the team with 1,362 yards passing and 11 touchdowns, while Johnson rushed for a conference-best 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns.
Both awards are determined by a vote held by the players.
Junior Brian Steiner, sophomore Cam Staley, and sophomore Jim Dwenger were recognized as being named Academic All-HCAC. Steiner carries a 3.57 in sports management, Staley carries a 3.58 in criminal justice and Dwenger carries a 3.94 in business administration.
