Hanover Eliminates BC from HCAC Tourney
Hanover College, the #2 seed in the HCAC Tournament, knocked out a visiting BC squad Tuesday night 68-55 at Collier Arena in Hanover, Indiana. The loss ends the season for the Beavers, who finished with an overall mark of 10-15 and 2-10 in the Heartland Conference.
Bluffton took a two point lead with 5:44 to go in the first half, but a 14-4 Hanover run gave the hosts a 33-23 lead at halftime.
BC narrowed the margin to three points with 12:01 to go in the game at 44-41, but a 9-0 spurt by the Panthers shifted the momentum back to the home team.
Seven straight points from Jeremy Roberts narrowed the margin to six points at 59-53 with just over two minutes to play. A three-pointer from Hanover's Derek Grimm, however, ended the Beavers' charge and Hanover converted their free throws in the final 90 seconds to seal the win.
Roberts scored Bluffton's last nine points, five of which came from the free throw line. He ended with a game-high 17 points. Rod Overmyer added 13 points and five rebounds, while Ben Coole scored 11 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.
Hanover (20-5) shot 58% from the floor in the game and will advance to the HCAC semi-finals on Friday at Franklin. The Panthers were led by Joe Neuman with 14 points.
