Transylvania at Bluffton HCAC series

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team (8-26, 5-13 HCAC) picked up
one win against Transylvania University (16-15, 9-6 HCAC) in their 2005 Heartland
Conference series. The Beavers won game two of the series 3-1 with Transylvania picking
up the win in game one 5-3 in 10 innings and 2-1 in the series finale.
Bluffton led game one 3-1 after the fourth only to find the Pioneers score two runs over the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game and head into extra innings. Transylvania scored two runs in the top of the tenth and held the Beavers in the bottom half of the inning for the 5-3 final.
Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) led the team in game one as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. Junior Steve Bogner (Willard/Willard) hit a double for Bluffton's only extra base hit of the contest. Junior Aaron Krieger (Ida, Mich./Ida) received the loss on the mound to take his record to 0-5 for the year. Junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) pitched nine innings as he gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out one batter.
Bluffton started the scoring in game two as they posted one run in the bottom of the
third inning. Transylvania tied the game as they scored one run in the top of the
fifth with the Beavers knocking in two runs in the bottom half of the inning for the
Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) pitched the victory to take his record to 4-4 as he gave up six hits, walked three and struck out four batters. Moore also went 2-for-3 at the plate on the day. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) led the team offensively as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI's in the game.
The Pioneers went up first in game three as they scored one run in the fifth and seventh
innings. The Beavers knocked in one run in the bottom of the seventh for the 2-1 final.
Kyle White scored Bluffton's lone run as he reached the bases on a single to right
field and later scored on a wild pitch.
Four different players posted one hit each in the contest. Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) received the loss to take his record to 2-4. Kay went the distance as he gave up six hits and struck out two batters.
Bluffton University will be back in action on May 6-7 for their final Heartland Conference series of 2005 against Manchester College. The Beavers will host Manchester on May 6 at 4 p.m. and travel to Indiana for the series conclusion on May 7. Start time for the May 7 doubleheader is scheduled for 12 noon.
