Franklin at Bluffton HCAC series

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team (5-16, 2-7 HCAC) picked up one win against No. 30 Franklin College (15-6, 6-3 HCAC) in their 2005 Heartland Conference series. Franklin won game one 8-3 on April 8 with the Beavers winning game two 9-8 and losing the finale of the series 2-0.
Franklin picked up the win 8-3 in the first game of the series. Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one. Freshman Tony Moore (Elida/Elida) posted two hits, one run and one RBI. Senior Jeff Hinderschied (Aurora/Aurora) knocked out a double for Bluffton's only extra base hit. Junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) received the loss on the mound to take his record to 0-2. Miller gave up 10 hits and struck out four batters in 6.2 innings pitched.
The Beavers spread out their runs in game two as they score over the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. Franklin led 1-0 early in the contest, only to find Bluffton win the game 9-8. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) led the team on the mound and at the plate in the contest. Moore (2-2) struck out three batters and gave up nine hits for the pitching win. Offensively, Moore went 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's. Junior Tony Gerig (West Unity/Hilltop) knocked out two hits and two runs in the game with senior Brad Moore (Fredericktown/Fredericktown) going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Franklin went up 2-0 in the third inning of the series finale for the final game score.
Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) went the distance on the mound as he pitched the
complete game. Kay (1-2) gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four batters.
Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) led the team as he went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
The Beavers will host Earlham College for a single nine inning game on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch for the contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
