The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, under the direction of Buddy Morrow, seeks to retain the authentic sound and style of the late Tommy Dorsey. The band's repertoire embraces not only the classics of the original Dorsey Orchestra, but also the spectrum of popular music from Dixieland, rhythm and blues and intricate ballads to progressive jazz and contemporary tunes. In Big Band history, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the best all-around dance bands. The band was in its heyday in the early 1940s, but by late 1946, eight big band leaders, including Dorsey, had disbanded their orchestras, essentially ending the Big Band Era. Less than two years later, Dorsey was fronting a new Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Morrow, who is recognized as one of the all-time great trombone players, is one of the rare and original Big Band leaders of today.
