I joined the Office of Adult and Graduate Education Department in January of 2006. I work with adult students in Piqua and the surrounding communities to help them reach their academic goals through our undergraduate and graduate programs offered at Edison Community College.
I find it extremely rewarding to help adults realize their dream of completing their undergraduate or graduate degrees. Moreover, I am truly humbled and honored to represent Bluffton University. As a graduate of BCOMP, I’ve experienced firsthand the benefit of self discovery that accompanies a degree from Bluffton University.
Bluffton’s academic programs combine traditional learning (human resources, organizational design, business communications, statistics and accounting) with themes of respect, responsibility, service and community. Bluffton’s program opened my mind, opened my eyes, and opened my heart. The result was a desire to lead a life dedicated to service through my work, my church and my community.
My husband, Dave, works for FDL Automation in Sidney. We live in New Bremen along the Miami Erie Canal with our dog, Flip. Our daughter, Sarah, was married in September 2007. She is an occupational therapist currently residing in Troy.
Currently, I am president of Women’s Fellowship at St. Peters in New Bremen. Over the past year, we’ve held a baby shower for Sidney Family Planning Clinic, organized religious programs for the residents of Heritage Manor in Minster, served meals at Bethany Center in Piqua, and established our church as a ‘satellite collection site’ for Carl’s Coats for Kids (Dayton’s WDTN). We also created St. Peter’s Pantry, which works as ‘mission central’ for our little church, collecting items for a multitude of organizations & programs: New Bremen, St. Marys, Piqua, Ft. Wayne, Lions Club International, the Bethel Project in Germany, and Auglaize Industries.
In August of 2006, I joined the Board of Trustees for Agape Ministries Inc. Agape provides food, clothing, and financial assistance to residents of Western Auglaize County and operates a food pantry and thrift store in St. Marys. I recently accepted an assignment to our newly formed advertising committee. I am very excited to seize this opportunity to use my creativity and imagination to build awareness and support for this vital organization.
I am fervently dedicated to what I term responsible consumption. I have always been especially passionate about issues regarding land and resource use, wildlife conservation, watersheds, recycling and waste reduction. After the Bluffton Pathways Book Club read ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ I felt personally convicted regarding my fuel consumption, electrical usage and shopping bag use (to mention just a few items). I believe even the smallest individual efforts, when combined with those of others, can make a big difference!
But, by far, the most rewarding position I have is my job. I introduce students to academic programs, which will take them on an unbelievable journey of Discovery, Community, Respect and Service. WOW – what an awesome opportunity!
