A Family Affair.
Senior Sam McCullough, Bluffton, Ohio, comes from a long line of Bluffton graduates. His grandparents, parents and siblings all attended and graduated from Bluffton, making Bluffton a natural choice for him. Sam’s older brother Ben (’07) played football at Bluffton while his sisters, Kristen (’02) participated in soccer and Karen ('00) was involved in music. Many members of the McCullough family can be seen at Sam’s football games, cheering on the Beavers throughout the fall.
Football Experience.
Football is a large part of Sam’s life on campus. He has been part of the defensive squad since his first year at Bluffton. Sam describes football as his hobby, his spare-time activity and what has made his college experience so rewarding. During the summer of 2005 Sam traveled to Italy with the football team to participate in a cross-cultural experience. “The cross cultural trip was a life changing experience. Learning more about the country’s culture and history was really intriguing. Being able to play football internationally was one of the best parts.”
Educational Advantages.
Sam has been studying to receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and management. The experience of the professors and real-life applications taught in numerous courses help him feel prepared for graduation and life after college. “I chose business as my focus because I like to interact with people and learn about the marketing world,” Sam says. The professors are also another advantage to the program. “The professors are a lot of fun, and I really enjoy how they teach.”
Campus Community.
While living on campus is a requirement for undergraduate students, Sam would not change it. “Living on campus in the dorms is like living with your friends in an apartment. It’s just nice being able to walk next door and hang out.” Part of the reason behind the university’s residential-living policy is to help campus members form a close-knit community and live within a community of respect. For Sam, a community of respect transcends into living on campus, playing football and hanging out with friends, completing his Bluffton experience.
