Opening Convocation

This formal assembly marks the official opening of the academic year. New students are welcomed into the university community by faculty, staff and returning students. The featured speaker will be Lorene Cary, author of the first year students' summer reading, Black Ice.

New students are expected to be present for this important speech and returning students are encouraged to attend. Arts & Lecture credit will be offered for this event.

A Conversation with Lorene Cary
This session provides an opportunity to meet and interact with our Convocation speaker in an informal setting. Students can discuss questions and issues from their summer reading and also learn more about Lorene Carey's own experiences and life.
