Transfer Financial Aid

One hundred percent of Bluffton students receive some type of financial aid. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for federal, state and Bluffton need-based student aid. Bluffton’s FAFSA code is 003016.

There is no additional process to apply for the following Bluffton awards, beyond successfully completing the transfer student application for admission.

For students entering Bluffton fall 2023

Transfer Honors Scholarship - $18,000
New transfer students with a 3.0 or greater cumulative GPA, and at least 12 transferable semester hours, are awarded a scholarship in the amount of $18,000. A 2.75 GPA is required in order to maintain the scholarship.
 
Transfer Achievement Scholarship - $16,000
New transfer students with a 2.5-2.99 cumulative GPA, and at least 12 transferable semester hours, are awarded a scholarship in the amount of $16,000. A 2.75 GPA is required in order to maintain the scholarship.

Transfer Scholarship - $14,000
New transfer students with a 2.0-2.49 cumulative GPA, and at least 12 transferable semester hours, are awarded a scholarship in the amount of $14,000. A 2.3 GPA is required in order to maintain the scholarship.

 

ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Music Ensemble Grant
    Awarded to new transfer students, based on an audition. Contact the admissions office by Feb. 1 to schedule an audition. The $1,000 award is renewable each year.   >>> more information
  • Art Major Scholarship
    Awarded to new transfer art majors whose portfolios are highly rated by Bluffton University art faculty. Portfolios must be submitted by Feb. 1. Awards starting at $1,000 are renewable each year. >>> more information
  • Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship
    All members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will receive an additional $1,000 renewable scholarship.
  • Learn and Earn Program
    This program allows students to choose from a variety of jobs on campus in order to help finance their college education. Pay varies based on hours worked. 

 
ADDITIONAL GRANTS

  • Mennonite Student Grant
    New transfer students who are members of any Mennonite church congregation are awarded $5,000 (renewable for up to four years).
  •  Alumni Grant
    This $1,000 renewable award is awarded to students whose parent(s), grandparent(s) or sibling(s) are part of Bluffton University’s 15,300+ alumni.
  • Out-of-State Grant
    This $1,000 renewable grant is awarded automatically to transfer students who reside in a state other than Ohio to help off-set travel costs.
  • Bluffton Award
    The Bluffton Award is offered to select residential students who file the FAFSA but who do not qualify for need-based grants. The award amount varies and is automatically renewable for three additional years.
  • Church Matching Grant
    Matches grants from a Christian church to a student who is a member of their congregation. The program must comply with IRS regulations.

  • Bluffton Opportunity Grant
    Awarded to students based on completion of the FAFSA form. This award can be added to the above awards. This grant is awarded based on need as determined by the FAFSA. Amounts vary.
  • International Student Grant 
    The grant ranging from $1,000-$9,000 recognizes that international students encounter additional costs to travel to Bluffton University. $1,000 is automatically given to all qualified applicants and new students may apply for up to $9,000 based on financial need. This grant is renewable for up to four years.
