Bluffton Scholarships and Grants

First-year students may be eligible to receive one of the following awards:

 

Presidential Scholarship Competition

Students with a 3.5 GPA (or higher) and a 25 ACT/1130 SAT (or higher) automatically qualify to participate in the annual Presidential Scholarship Competition on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. Students attending this event compete for four scholarships:  two full-tuition Presidential Scholarships and two three-quarters tuition Dean's Scholarships.

  • Presidential Scholarship
This is a full-tuition scholarship valued at more than $100,000 for four years. Two scholarships are awarded each year to winners of the Presidential Scholarship Competition. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Dean's Scholarship

This is a three-quarters tuition scholarship valued at more than $75,000 for four years. Two scholarships are awarded each year as a part of the Presidential Scholarship Competition. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

  • Academic Honors with Distinction Scholarship
This prestigious $14,000 annual scholarship (valued at $56,000 for four years) is given to high achieving students who have distinguished academic records and accomplishments. It is awarded based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA. 
  • Academic Honors Scholarship
This $13,000 annual scholarship (valued at $52,000 for four years) is awarded to new students with high academic standing who have proven themselves in the classroom and beyond. It is awarded based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Trustees Scholarship
This $11,000 annual scholarship (valued at $44,000 for four years) is named in honor of Bluffton University's trustees who actively invest their time and resources into Bluffton students. Awarded to new students based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
  • Alumni Scholarship
This $9,000 annual scholarship (valued at $36,000 for four years) is named in honor of Bluffton University's 14,000 alumni whose education is helping them impact the global community. Awarded to new students based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 2.3 GPA.
  • Founders Grant

This $5,000 annual scholarship is valued at $20,000 for four years. Founded in 1899, Bluffton University seeks to prepare students of all backgrounds for life as well as vocation. This grant is given to new students who seek to continue discovering their academic potential. It is awarded based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance and is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Academic department scholarships

  • Natural & Applied Sciences Scholarship

Up to ten $3,000 scholarships will be awarded in each of the following majors:  math, physics, chemistry, biology, pre-med and dietetics. These scholarships will be in addition to the Academic Honors or Honors with Distinction Scholarships. Qualifying students will be invited to interview for this scholarship which is renewable all four years.

A $1,000 scholarship (valued at $4,000 for four years) is awarded to new students whose art portfolios are highly rated by Bluffton University art faculty. Portfolios must be submitted no later than March 1 for consideration.  >>> more information

  • Performing Scholar Music Scholarship

Two $20,000 scholarships and two $18,000 scholarships are awarded each year to winners of the Performing Scholar Competition. This scholarship is renewable all four years.

A $2,000 scholarship (valued at $8,000 for four years) is awarded to new students majoring in music based on an audition for Bluffton University music faculty. >>> more information

Students may be able to add these to one of the above listed scholarships/grants.

  • Presidential Scholarship Competition Award
A $1,000 scholarship (valued at $4,000 for four years) is awarded to students participating in the Presidential Scholarship Competition.
  • Mennonite Student Grant
A $2,000 award (valued at $8,000 for four years) is given to new students who are members of a Mennonite Church USA congregation.
  • Out-of-State Grant
A $1,000 award (valued at $4,000 for four years) is given to new, out-of-state students to help off-set travel costs.
  • Community Enrichment Grant
A $2,000 award (valued at $8,000 for four years) is given to new students from under-represented backgrounds at Bluffton. Students must submit an application for consideration.   • Bluffton Opportunity Grant
Awarded to students based on completion of the FAFSA form. This award can be added to the above awards. This grant is awarded based on need as determined by the FAFSA. Amounts vary.
