Dixwell Fire Station

Venturi and Rauch
1972

Front facade

The large letters on the front of the fire station and the "ordinary" look of the station announce Venturi's allegiance to post-modernism and illustrate the influence of popular culture.

Playful details

Architectural elements are asymmetrical, the windows don't seem to line up, and the wall seems to be coming loose--yet the curve continues around to the side.
