Casa Dolors Calm

Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas
1903
Rambla de Catalunya 54

Through alteration to the inside and facade, this existing building is now an interesting example of Modernista architecture. The central gallery extending up the center of the building is the most obvious design feature. Each floor has different designs and the windows have stained glass panels at the top.

Floral motifs, even in polychrome sgraffiti, occur in unexpected places (underneath the gallery, for example). See also a slightly earlier art nouveau apartment building in Vienna by Otto Wagner.
