A ravine ran through the site. While the first structure by Mendelsohn occupied the higher ground, when the addition was planned, it was built dramatically over the ravine. The addition has an auditorium, a large assembly hall, an art gallery, and smaller auxiliary rooms. A distinctive glass tabernacle for the auditorium and sliding, multi-colored glass panels for the art gallery were designed by Israeli/Canadian artist Yaacov Agam in 1971.
