Central Library

Van den Broek and Bakema
1977-83

The six stepped levels create a dramatic facade for this new central library. The writers of the Architectural Guide to Rotterdam state that "the whole is dominated by the exuberant use of 45 degree angles in plan and elevation" (63). In addition, the colorful pipes, like those of the Pompidou Centre, contribute to the friendly aspect of this center for learning.
