| These innovative houses are located in an exciting area of Rotterdam--the old harbor area, near the Market, the Central Library, and
the Blaak Station. Only 38 of the projected 74 cube houses were built, but as a group they provided high density housing in a sophisticated urban environment. These tree houses consist of a tilted cube with one point resting on a hexagonal concrete pylon. The entrance and stairs are in the "trunk" while the cube itself has three levels: a "street-house" with open kitchen and living room; a "sky-house" with two bedrooms and a bathroom; and a top floor at the apex, sometimes used as a small garden space. The total area of the apartment is about 100 square meters, but some of the space is unusable because all the walls in the cube are at an angle. | ||
