Reliefs from Yaxchilán

A leader carries a ceremonial staff and receives an offering from a woman
 

Relief from Yaxchilán, Chiapas (Lintel 53)

Late Classic. Stone; height: 1.6 M

The relief depicts a ritual scene with one of the last governors, Jaguar Shield, wearing quetzal feathers opposite his wife, Wind Skull.

Late Classic.

The central stucco mask represents the Maya sun god Kinich Ahau and the smaller masks portray the old god of fire.

Postclassic. Stone; height: 110 cm; length: 160 cm

This sculpture is representative of the Maya-Toltec phase at Chichen Itzá rther than the preceding Puuc phase.
