Tram and passages, Getty Center (page 2 of 10 pages)

Richard Meier
1997

A four-minute tram ride brings visitors from the parking lot at the base of the hill to the Getty Center at the top. The tram is essentially a horizontal elevator, designed by Otis, which is electric, noiseless, and pollution-free.

Tramway arrival plaza; left and center: looking toward the Auditorium, the curved roof of which echoes the slope of the hill.

Public north-south causeway--a street between the Auditorium and the Museum and above the tram arrival plaza. Left: looking toward the Museum; right: looking toward the Restaurant
