French Embassy

Christian de Portzamparc
2001-2

Pariser Platz facade

The facade harkens back to important historic buildings, the main floor of which--the piano nobile--was on the first floor (not the ground floor). The very tall windows span two floors.

Eccentric fenestration

This embassy has the same address as one the French government had that was destroyed in World War II. Some of the interior design and furniture was created by Elizabeth de Portzamparc. (See this web site for photographs of the interior.)
