Tiffany Hotel (now The Hotel)

L.Murray Dixon
1939
801 Collins Avenue

A corner site

Like Hohauser's Essex House Hotel, this large hotel has a double-lot corner site. Dixon's Tudor Hotel also has a grand corner site. And all have corner spires emblazoned with the names of the hotels. The two sides are different with only the curved corner emphasis uniting them. The aluminum tower is illuminated at night with neon.

Large vertical ribs (what one critic calls "fins") circle around the corner. Eyebrows, partly continuous, form horizontal accents on the side facades. Large porthole windows look out onto Collins Avenue. Glass brick stretches above these openings.
