National Hotel

1677 Collins Avenue

A lineup of tall hotels--left to right: the Delano Hotel, the National Hotel and the Sagamore Hotel

The wings of the back of the National Hotel extend toward the ocean, while the front borders Collins Avenue. The fenestration provides the interest here (as in Modernist buildings) while decoration is kept to a minimum.

The tower, with openings like a church bell tower, has an onion-shaped dome--adding a middle Eastern touch. Decorative escutcheons are at the top of each of the side bays.
