Saint James Piccadilly

Sir Christopher Wren
1676-84

View from the side

Designed to hold about 2000 parishioners, this is one of Wren's best known and most influential churches. While he experimented in some of his earlier churches with centralized plans, this church has a longitudinal plan with rows of five two-tiered windows in the nave. The exterior is brick with details in stone--quoins, keystones, tower balustrade, etc.

The tower, added later in 1700.
