Pavilion of the Human Passions, Parc du Cinquantenaire

Victor Horta
1899

This early building in Horta's career does not really signal his later directions. It is after all essentially a classical building. It was built to house a large relief by Jef Lambeau entitled the "Human Passions." Because this relief was so explicit with a chaos of nude figures, it elicited criticism causing the building to close almost immediately after opening. It seems as if the building is rarely open today.
