The New York Delicatessen (demolished in in 2007)

Art Deco
Ralph B. Bencker of Philadelphia

Thanks to Carl Tait of New York City who provided the name of the architect and this information: "According to www.metrohistory.com, 104 W. 57th Street (technically 102-106 W. 57th Street) was built in 1937 for Horn & Hardart at a cost of $75,000. The architect was Ralph B. Bencker of Philadelphia. Most recently, the building was the home of Shelly's New York, an excellent steak-and-seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, the building has been demolished during this past year." According to Bruce Mentone, who graciously e-mailed me this information, "the New York Delicatessen . . . originally was a Horn & Hardart's Automat. They have a web site showing the building as it was when built. For a time it was a book store and then the Motown Café."
